Whales are carnivores and one of the top predators in the ocean and they live in the North Atlantic and North Pacific Oceans.
Whales have been hunted by humans for years for commercial purposes because they provide meat, fat, oil, leather, tools, and other useful materials.
However they are also threatened by incidental entanglement, habitat destruction, and pollution.
Several different acts have been put into place, such as the The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is an international treaty, to control whale hunting however these have only slightly slowed down the hunting.
There scientific name for the species is Cetaceans and out of the 18 different types of whales on Earth, 11 are considered endangered and 3 as vulnerable.
